Frequently Asked Questions
Why do invoices require the amount in words?
The GST Invoice Rules (Rule 46 of CGST Rules) require the total value of supply to be mentioned in words on a tax invoice. This is a legal requirement and helps prevent invoice tampering.
What number system does this tool use?
It uses the Indian number system — Lakh (1,00,000) and Crore (1,00,00,000) — which is the standard format used on Indian invoices and legal documents.
Does it handle paise (decimal amounts)?
Yes. Enter amounts with up to 2 decimal places (e.g. 1250.75) and the tool will output "One Thousand Two Hundred Fifty Rupees and Seventy-Five Paise Only".
What is the maximum amount supported?
The tool supports amounts up to ₹9,99,99,99,999.99 (Nine Hundred Ninety-Nine Crore, Ninety-Nine Lakh...) which covers virtually all invoice values.
